Common Challenges All Children Will Encounter

The Classics help children of any age overcome the challenges and issues they will face while learning to become happy, responsible adults.

Every child will encounter struggles on the path to growing up. It is our job as parents tot provide the tools, knowledge and environment kids need to help them successfully overcome these struggles. We've listed the major challenges child face to help parents quickly find books and related media that fits the problems they are experiencing. This is not a complete listing, but rather our attempt to call out some of the major milestones children face and parents need to manage. 

 

Toddler Experiences and Challenges pertaining to mealtime, bedtime, bathtime, getting dressed, potty training, and illness

Mishandles Uncomfortable Emotions such as fear and anger

Doesn’t Follow Rules, Disobeys and therefore has difficulty cooperating, obeying, being good, and playing without cheating

Is Impatient and has difficulty with delayed gratification and waiting for anything

Is Neglectful and tends to be lazy, forgetful, careless, messy, or wasteful. Also tends to overdo it

Feels Entitled and Doesn’t Contribute, help, or do things to earn his or her allowance

Needs to Be Center of Attention and shows off, demands attention, or is bossy

Displays Rude Behavior by interrupting and exhibiting other antisocial behavior such as temper tantrums in public

Doesn’t Clean up After Him/Herself and instead is messy, careless, and resists cleaning his or her room

Disrespects Others by breaking promises, tattling, teasing, gossiping, lying, being rude, snooping, stealing, bullying, being destructive, fighting, or being mean

Whines and Throws Tantrums, and complains instead of getting attention and getting what he or she needs or wants in more appropriate ways

Doesn’t Get Along with Others and resorts to being a bad sport, fighting, and being mean

Needs to Learn Safety and how to avoid danger, how to handle emergencies, and other dangerous situations

Struggles with School and Schoolwork and therefore is forgetful, resistant to doing homework, and does not get good grades

Faces Challenging Obstacles such as fear, stress, criticism, rejection, rude people, difficult situations, and bad habits

Needs to be More Responsible
by being creative, assertive, in control, organized, and focused on goals

Desires to be Happy and Successful by being beautiful, being liked and admired, being happy, being a star, being a winner, and having a great future

Is Facing a Major Trauma
either directly or indirectly, including being bullied, moving, substance abuse, divorce, natural disaster, or death
